One of my favorite reads of 2018 so far. I loved Shirin. You cannot help but sympathize with the tough demeanor she presents - the way people let their fear turn to prejudice and hatred made me so angry. Bonus points for wonderful Muslim American representation and break dancing! One of my favorite reads of 2018 so far. I loved Shirin. An intriguing look at a possible future that now feels a little too possible, where women's speech is literally limited every day. This is a dystopian with a slow build and a fast ending, that will appeal to those who love the genre, and appreciate the thread scientific study that runs through it.An intriguing look at a possible future that now feels a little too possible, where women's speech is literally limited every day. This book is smarter than I am. I did not understand half of what I read, but I couldn't stop reading it all the same. The stories are super weird and definitely not for the timid, but they're also compelling and thought-provoking. A slow-paced, well-developed character study of a somewhat background character from Greek mythology. I only knew of Circe from The Odyssey, and I was not expecting such a rich story about family, love and what it means to live a fulfilling life.

This book is everything sweet and summer that I was looking for when I picked it up. I read it in one sitting - perfect if you are looking for something light and refreshing. Make sure you have ice cream nearby when you finish reading!

Great addition to a strong series. I love the developing relationship between Goldie and Diane - they are definitely a couple and starting to fight like one as they work out their insecurities. The art is sweet and approachable, and the mystery is colorful and fun to watch Goldie and her friends solve.Great addition to a strong series. This is definitely designed for existing fans of this Tony-award-winning musical, but even if you don't know the show or the music (bonus: the entire libretto is included here), it's a great behind-the-scenes look at the creative process, how original musicals get made and what it takes to play such emotionally demanding roles. This is definitely designed for existing fans of this Tony-award-winning musical, but even if you don't know the show or the music (bonus: the entire libretto is included here), it's a great behind-the-scenes look at the creative process, how…

This book is not as strong for me as others I love by this author, but it still tells a compelling story - albeit one packed into less than a day that left me wanting more. I really started to care for these characters and to appreciate their struggles - I think they will be relatable to a lot of people. This book is not as strong for me as others I love by this author, but it still tells a compelling story - albeit one packed into less than a day that left me wanting more. A graphic novel was the perfect format for this book. Bagieu imbued just enough humor into her stories and art to make you want to learn more about every single woman in it - many of whom I had never heard of.

This is one of the best YA fantasy novels I've ready in quite awhile. I felt invested in all the characters, and I loved learning more about West African mythology. The pacing was spot on for me - I never FELT like I was reading a 600-page book.

Thielen has a very approachable writing style, and her descriptions of food from her childhood to NYC kitchens and back to a more rustic approach are mouthwatering and make me want to pretend I can cook. The story never quite drew me in completely, I felt there was a little too much tangential content, but still an enjoyable read.Thielen has a very approachable writing style, and her descriptions of food from her childhood to NYC kitchens and back to a more rustic approach are mouthwatering and make me want to pretend I can cook. How can you not pick up an alternate history hippo western? Especially when it's a shorter novella. I loved that the main cast of characters was so LGBTQ diverse (including a gender neutral character who uses they pronouns). The plot felt secondary to me, but it was worth reading for the hippos and the characters. How can you not pick up an alternate history hippo western? Especially when it's a shorter novella. I love having multiple narrators, and when you have four of them and you can't tell who might be lying it makes for a very compelling read. All the voices sounded distinct, and I found myself liking everyone and not wanting anyone to be revealed as the murderer. It kept me guessing until the end.I love having multiple narrators, and when you have four of them and you can't tell who might be lying it makes for a very compelling read.
