This is a very intellectual book, but it is rich in insights. I highly recommend anyone who works in an animal shelter read the section on what euthanasia is, and what details must be satisfied in order for euthanasia to actually occur. It is a massively mis-used term in the 'shelter' community, aimed at consoling people who have failed to find homes for these sentient creatures. One of the criteria of euthansia is that the killer must believe that killing the animal is in its own best interest - and that this belief actually be true.
This book would be hard to read cover to cover, but my hat goes off to anyone who does so. It is packed full of important moral and philosophical arguments.
