Interesting stories on how wartime couples met, the excitement or fallout of getting married, the long stressful boat trip, train trip, & adjustments to new home, in-laws to frosty ex-girlfriends to new husband. Whoops.
Many weren't happily ever after.
Hard to wrap around my head that famous cartoonist was a reporter & author too.

Ben Wick's constant commentary before each submission by the war bride is disruptive and does not really add to the emotion and heroism of these stories. I learned a lot. I did not realize that some women were sent back to UK for fraternizing with men on the ships on their way to meet their husbands. And conditions for mothers with babies were really bad. The wife who fainted when she met her new in-laws in full regalia in their indigenous dress was funny and sad... she went back home. Canadian soldiers were not always honest about what their bride would be coming to. But by using this choppy format, the authors has not done justice to the stories these women have to tell.
