Mama, do you love me? Yes I do Dear One. How much? In this universal story, a child tests the limits of independence and comfortingly learns that a parent's love is unconditional and everlasting. The story is made all the more captivating by its unusual Arctic setting. The lyrical text introduces young readers to a distinctively different culture, while at the same time showing that the special love that exists between parent and child transcends all boundaries of time and place. The story is beautifully complemented by graphically stunningillustrations that are filled with such exciting animals as whales, wolves, puffins, and sled dogs, and a carefully researched glossary provides additional information on Arctic life. This tender and reassuring book is one that both parents and children will turn to again and again.

This was one of my favorite books as a child. The pictures are captivating and the message is heartwarming. I suggest reading this snuggled up next to a fire with your little one.

This classic tale of a mother's love for her child is magical. Plus, you get to learn what an Umiak is.

Very good and there is a glossary at the back to explain some of the unfamiliar words . Good book to read with the young ones .

The previous poster failed to see that there is a glossary at the end of the book to define the words that may not be familiar with children.

I grew up reading this story. It is one of my childhood favorites. My son enjoys it too.

This book was a favourite of my daughter's bedtime reading. Her grandmother went on a trip to Alaska and brought this book back for her. It will continue to be special. Barbara Lavallee's stylized whimsical paintings are exquisite.
