Great story. Interesting perspective.

Kurt Busiek is a genius. Those painted Alex Ross panels are the stuff of legend. And this book is a really interesting take on all the Marvel heroes, from a different perspective. The only thing? Oh god I'm just going to say it -- I got a little bored. It's just you sort of get the idea at a certain point, you know? Still probably worth a read, because it's a modern classic and all. But I will always (not so secretly anymore, now that I've written it here, eh?) much prefer Astro City and Superman Secret Identity.
Phew, felt good to get that off my chest.

I've been reading comic books since the early 80's and I've read a lot of comics. Marvels by Kurt Busiek & Alex Ross is the BEST story I've ever read. Busiek tells a great tale of the Marvel Universe as seen through the eye of a regular joe. The story is divided into 4 important dates in Marvel history, 1) the first appearance of a "Marvel", the original Human Torch 2) The 1st appearance of the X-Men and other mutants 3) Galactus arrives on Earth 4) The death of Gwen Stacy.
Alex Ross' art is impeccable as usual.

I always wondered what bystanders thought of the Hulk, Galactus and other heros and villains and book tells you exactly that. With memerable events like the coming of Galactus or the first time the original human torch fought sub-mariner to even the death of spidy's girlfriend this book has it all

Not to bad for a marvel comic. A little bit boring but put a different spin on the super-heroes through the ages.
