Pretty decent and funny for his freshman novel. I love that Chris calls himself the oldest known child prodigy getting this published in his 30's. I have to find an accurate bibliography because I keep reading his books and find out after that it's number 2 or 3 in the series. While this is the first in the Pine Cove series I started with number 3 and thankfully they have absolutely nothing in common but the town of Pine Cove as far as I can tell. I need a break from Chris though. I feel I've gone overboard once again. He's like books on Scientology. I just wish I knew how to quit you Christopher Moore.

Fictional story; good characters, well developed. Everything is pretty balanced till the end which is a tad botched. The last cavern scene is forced, but the story has to end somehow. The epilogue is cute as "all wells that end s well". Quick read that gets a few laughs.

Christopher Moore is one of the very best writers of humorous fiction. A zany plot, outlandish characters and a satirical look at some of the wackier aspects of contemporary lifestyles all add up to a thoroughly enjoyable read.
