The end of World War I offers archaeologist and amateur sleuth Amelia Peabody Emerson and her family little respite when mysterious events start to plague friends, allies and co-workers--a strange theft, son Ramses' kidnapping, and the sabotage of a boat on which the family is traveling--and, given the growing unrest against British rule in Egypt, Amelia begins to wonder if politics are behind the strange occurrences.

After the Great War, the Emersons, joined by extended family and the Vandergelds, go back to excavation, with grandchildren. Complicated trouble comes to them, naturally. Naturally, they solve the puzzles. Fun to watch Ramses and David, along with Nefret, Lia, Emerson and Peabody, interact with both the children, and Sethos. Not the best in the series, but for fans still not one to be missed. The introduction is a wonderful summing up, in case the Reader is meeting the characters for the first time.

The Great War has ended, but evil still casts a long shadow over a violence-scarred land.

One woman - an adventurer and archaeologist with a brilliant mind - must now confront a dreadful adversary more fiendish and formidable than any she has ever encountered. But by doing so, she may be feeding the flames of a devastating firestorm that threatens the fragile lives of the tender and innocent.

The usual excitement and dangers to be found in this series, but this time the third generation is present in abundance, adding their shenanigans to the mix.
