Great comedy! We need great comedy now to beat off COVID-19! I love this movie! Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau won Oscar awards for their parts. The movie was released in 1968. I highly recommend this movie for lots of laughs.

For the most part - Neil Simon's "The Odd Couple" (from 1968) was a fairly entertaining comedy-drama about 2 forty-something buddies (both recently divorced from their wives) who agree to become roommates only to find out how little they actually have in common with each other.

Both actors Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau put in reasonably engaging performances as the bickering "odd couple" who (on a strictly comic level) fail to see eye to eye on all sorts of matters.

1968's "The Odd Couple" is a comedy-drama based upon the Neil Simon stage play (of the same name) that tells the topsy-turvy tale of 2 middle-aged, heterosexual pals who move in together as roommates only to find out how much they love to hate each other.

Starring Walter Matthau (as Oscar Madison) and Jack Lemmon (as Felix Unger) - "The Odd Couple" has a fairly engaging "nag-nag-nag-bicker-bicker-bicker" story-line where its two lead actors prove, time and again, that their on-screen rapport between each other is right on the mark.

recently saw the part 2 of this one, also scripted by Neil Simon. Very good, also, but the 1 is the groundbreaker. 2 was filmed with Lemmon and Matthau advanced in age, jibing at each other constantly, while on a road trip, and a quest. 1 is limited to the apartment of the messy one of the duo (Walter Matthau); and Lemmon's character is fussy like an old fish-wife. What I am saying is, see them both, for it brings a sense of completion to the play written by Simon. This film is unusual in that the tv series derived from 1 is worthy of the writing genius of the playwright. This was probably because the casting was effective. Jack Klugman and Tony Randall were inspired choices. All these are comedy at its finest!!!

VERY GOOD 1967 film version of Neil Simon's play starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau - fun view.

THE ODD COUPLE really holds up as a smart dramedy (or comedy, if you want to ignore the more serious elements of the story), the basis of many dynamic duos in pop culture since. Without THE ODD COUPLE, we'd have no LETHAL WEAPON, no TOY STORY, no TWO AND A HALF MEN. The buddy genre owes much to THE ODD COUPLE. I appreciated the clever jokes and how well crafted it all is. It's as I expected, though, considering the status this film possesses still to this day. I recommend it.

The CPL copy is badly scratched. If you get it, return it and ask for a copy from another location.

A Five Star Comedy Classic from Jack Lemon and Walter Matthau. The remaining cast members are all great character actors and do a great job. This may be Neil Simon's most popular work of writing as it was both a hit both as a movie and a play. Most of the movie is just like the "Odd Couple TV Show" which played for years. There are so many funny situations these two characters can get into. It is the story of two completely opposite personalities living together. I can see why both men were divorced. If you haven't seen the "Odd Couple" you are missing one of our countries finest comedy classics!.
12/5/19 Got to see Jack and Walter again. These two made the best comedy I have ever had the good fortune to see.
