This biography tells the true story of two very intelligent young men who overcame troubled pasts and founded a world-famous software company known as id Software. One of the first games that id Software created was called "Doom" and it became a landmark of technical innovations (binary space partitioning) and overall game design (the template for all first person shooter games). The two young founders became very wealthy but their personal lives suffered as they struggled with demons from their pasts. Maybe none of us can really leave our pasts behind?

After Homo Sapiens, came Homo Ludens: I think, therefore I play [Cogito ergo ludo]! The penultimate book on the real birth of the gaming industry. The author focuses on the two Super-Johns: John Carmack and John Romero, and how they created and developed Doom, Quake, et al. A great accomplishment in the telling of tech history! [Just don't understand how Carmack, who says he believes in the Hackers Ethic/Creed, could marry an Ayn Rand fiend?????]
