I read the novel years ago and I quite enjoyed this war action thriller ... but why would the Germans place their monster guns 10m below the level of the access tunnel which makes them awkward to install and slow to serve (by elevator)?

Gregory Peck & Anthony Quinn it doesn't get any better, then add a WWII scenario to the Mix, & You have a Master Piece.!

Everyone's outstanding in this epic tale, the only criticism I have is that it could have been a little tighter in production (a little more dialogue and less waves!). All in all a good movie with an edge-of-your-seat ending!

Oh my goodness-my topmost favorite movie. My heart is still surging! Epic battles, great acting, over-the-top exciting story line. The whole time my hands were trembling with anxiousness-the ending is very satisfying. The actors play their parts so well you actually feel part of the chase. Great schemes-amazing last stand. Watch.

Commodore Jensen [speaking to his batman Sidney]: "Anything can happen in a war. Slap in the middle of absolute insanity people pull out the most extraordinary resources of ingenuity, courage, self-sacrifice ... Pity we can't beat the problems of peace in the same way, isn't it. It would be so much cheaper for everyone."
Batman Sidney: "I never thought of it in just that way, sir. You're a philosopher, sir."
Comm. Jensen: "No, I'm just the man who has to send people out on [very risky sabotage] jobs like this one."
