In the first book in the GUARDIANS... series, the reader is introduced to Soren, a barn owl and the centerpiece of the series. When Soren is pushed from his family's nest by his older brother, he is rescued from certain death on the forest floor by agents from a mysterious school for orphaned owls, St. Aggie's. When Soren arrives at St. Aggie's, he suspects there is more to the school than meets the eye. When I was young (10 maybe?) and I first read this book, I couldn't put it down. This book sparked my love for owls.

Short Summary *SPOILERS MAYBE?*

A Barn Owl named Soren goes on an adventure once he and his brother get kidnapped. They both discover a different world beyond their nesting tree and the stories of the Guardians their father told them. Soren soon discovers there is more to thus place; an evil power. With some help Soren escapes to find the Guardians.

It is a wonderful book. Although some parts of the book is sad, it is the BEST BOOK EVER!!!!
I can't wait till my next book on hold comes out! I promise you that all the Gardiens of Ga'Hoole books are AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

This is a fantastic book!  I cannot wait to receive my hold for the next book in this series, it is taking forever. The sad events in this story broke my heart, but that's what makes it interesting. Anyway, I love the series so far! It's a great start to a series because the first book is so engaging.
My favorite character is Gylfie, very cute, tiny, but smart. Just the perfect combination!

I love this series so much, I was so sad when I finished it because I couldn't read more about Soren and his adventures. I would recommend this to anyone who likes Erin Hunter, Lisa Fiedler, or any of Kathryn Lasky's other books. Once again, I love this series!

While this is definitely YA fiction, I greatly enjoyed this as a 28 year old woman. I started reading it aloud to my four year old and then ended up finishing it that night myself, so now I am re-reading it aloud to him as I tear through the rest of the series after he goes to bed. Great series.

Soren is an owlet, growing up in the Forest of Tyto, listening to stories about the Guardians of Ga’Hoole: a band of legendary owls, knights who rid the land of evil. Then one day Soren is kidnapped, and taken to St. Aegolius Acadamy of Orphaned Owls. There he meet Gylfie, an Elf Owl, who was also swept from the nest. It doesn’t take the friends long to realise that things aren’t right at St. Aegolius… evil is the air. Soon after witnessing a murder at the school, they decide to escape the prison-like place and attempt to fly for the very first time. But will they make it? Will they ever escape the villanous clutches of the owls at St. Aegolius? You would have to read the book to find out.

My favourite character is Twilight, who, even though he is very boastful, is clever and strong. I liked the idea of owls being warriors. I think that this book is best for both boys and girls, and I give it a 8 out of 10.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: Although this book doesn't have much that would be unsuitable for a younger audience, (other than the ending section) later books feature some blood and death scenes. Seems a little bit heavy for this light beginning. Most of the books are fine however, and if you can live through one or two violent scenes then this book/series is for you.
