I read "A Complicated Kindness" so I was excited to read more by Miriam Toews. I was so disapointed. This is one of the most painfully boring books I've read in a long time. The "problem" is barely a problem and Toews spends a lot of trying to sell the reader quirky characters in a quirky town but in the end they lack substance. The book is a lot of pages about nothing.

Not one of Miriam Toews best. A curious story about eccentric characters in the smallest town in Canada and Mayor Funk's attempt to keep it as such so he can meet the Prime Minister who is purportedly his father.

Enjoyed it more than "A Complicated Kindness". Characters are unique and likeable and you can certainly picture the town and all of the people in it. Humourous writing style.
