Very straightforwardly written. Lots of digressions on many aspects of ancient near eastern prehistory. Many of the military qualities are also explained, but a few things are left out, for example, that harnesses (like, for chariots) were all choke harnesses. Uncluttered notes section and a glossary are included. One of the best aspects of the book is a lengthy and thorough 'note on sources' section which doubles as a further reading guide.

Lame attempt to combine ancient texts to give a "realistic" overview of the war.

easy read, some context.. but I wish it had been an actual history of the war.. He chops the heck out of most of the legends, so that if you did not know them you would not get the meaning.

should have spent more time on relating the actual story. when he does it is good.
