Film adaptation of ex-CIA Directorate of Operations officer turned novelist Barry Eisler's "A Clean Kill in Tokyo (2002)." Enjoyed the political thriller premise but felt the characters, including Gary Oldman, acted too emotionally as hitman and spies, perhaps catered to Asian cinema? Also for a thriller, there were little actions and stunts worthy of note. A curious watch to learn about the Eisler's famous John Rain and comparison with Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne.

Note: If you wonder about the ending, my take is in "Quotes."

Movie is half english, half subtitles.
Movie takes place in Japan and that is why it is subtitled.

After the film's anticlimactic end, I went back to the beginning of the movie and searched for this Simpson guy but nada. Went to the search engines (wiki, imdb, google, bing for "jack simpson in john rain novels" and NADA as well. The closest I can come up with is to insert the author Ellis in the film!!! What a travesty:

I am looking for Jack Simpson.
-I'm Jack Simpson. Who the fxck are you?
I'm John Rain.
