Another highly entertaining read but I couldn't go above four stars due to the author's cop-out by not explaining Reacher's survival at the end. You have to be a nuclear physicist or you're really out of luck. The plot is too ambitious and the denouement not really satisfying.

Book #16 chronologically:

The 61 hours gimmick did not work for me; the bad guys were only medium evil.

my 13th Reacher novel.. ( didnt read ONE SHOT as Tom Cruise did the movie..& the most interesting thing to me was that the ZEK was Werner Herzog)

I too figured out who the bent cop was before it was revealed...& I found it notable that the diamonds survived..

although the business about the leftovers of WW11 makes me more pissed at the Military since my paratrooper cousin came home from the Vietnam War with a monkey on his back.

I Love the Jack Reacher series of books, but I found this one to be slow to start, way too cluttered with unnecessary detail, and having a very disappointing ending. WTF?

The Reacher books are always readable but this is an average story. The 61 hours as far as I could determine was an arbitrary literary device that didn't work for me. If I wanted to know how close to the end of the story looking at how many pages to go did just as well . Some of the plot devices also strained at the boundaries of reality although with the world being filled with strange happenings these are perhaps less important.

This is anything but a page-turner. Renewed twice and still couldn't finish it, as opposed to a Sanford, Cornwell, or J.D. Robb novel, which I always finish within 2 days. This was my first time reading a Lee Child novel, I won't bother trying to read another. Boring with no characters that you even remotely care about or are interested in.

Excellent. But the ending will drive you carzy.

"This 14th Reacher novel opens with a countdown: 61 hours to go until something happens. With 59 to go, Reacher's helping senior citizens after the bus they're all on careens out of control. Stuck in tiny Bolton, South Dakota, Reacher keeps himself busy helping the police, but it's soon clear that illegal activities on the outskirts of town are well beyond the local cops' abilities to control. A hired assassin, a Mexican drug lord, a biker gang, and a sophisticated meth lab spell trouble, and it will take all of Reacher's skill with military strategy and weaponry to handle the situation. Fans who enjoy this one should look forward to Personal, the 19th in the series, which will be available soon." Not the usual number of twists and turns I enjoy about this series but worth a read. I was able to figure out who the 'bent cop' was well before it was revealed and that disappoints
