I found the comment below quite unfair... the book makes no pretensions toward being scientific. It is the personal experience of one person who has interacted with hundreds of babies over many years. (And so yes, it is literally the story of her life!) In her experience, both co-sleeping and cry-it-out can lead to sleeping difficulties. This isn’t to say that these methods never work - they do,obviously, for some people! But for some they don’t and you don’t need to cite references to know that.

I found her middle of the road approach very useful and I loved the coloquial tone. I found it very comforting while going through a tough time in my life. In fact, we checked this book out when we ran in trouble with both of our daughters! And it was super helpful both times.

Although I got a few good tips from this book, overall I'm not a fan. The writing was condescending and over-the-top cutesy, and the author spends more time describing how she single-handedly rescued family after family after family than she does trying to teach you her techniques. When she describes other methods she is unnecessarily mean, and just plain factually wrong. No citations, no references, no evidence for anything she claims.

This book seems more about Tracy Hogg than it is about parenting.

Recommend to anyone having their first baby. Loved what it taught me and proud of my parenting skills acquired.

Was alright. Has alot of content. Was recommended by our doctor, but we found that although it covered a lot of content, it wasn't that precise. A good secondary book however.
