As in the Gabriel Allon novels, there's an engaging group dynamic at work in Barry Eisler's John Rain thrillers, as well as plenty of spycraft, though Rain is an enigmatic (and, in The Detachment, semi-retired) assassin and Allon an Israeli intelligence agent. In this 7th novel (of 8 so far), Rain and his team are presented with a list of three high-level U.S. government targets plotting to stage a coup by manufacturing attacks that will be blamed on Islamic extremists. Tense, twisty, often politically complex, and well-researched, this series from a former CIA covert agent starts with Rain Fall.

Eisler's John Rain action sequence (7 books) is among the best thrillers I've read -- as good as Bond or any other current spy thrillers.
Barry Eisler worked in CIA operations over ten years, lived in Japan, and has a judo black belt. He's an expert in weapons and all the modern spy tech.
Incredible detail, with nail-biting suspense and romance - a plausible Bourne.
Have fun.

EPL has all of his books except for "Hard Rain" which we will replace right away.

Eisler always serves up an intelligent, well researched thriller. This one is interesting because it brings together characters from different books including John Rain from his great series. Disappointing that EPL doesn't carry all his books.
