This would be a good start for someone learning to cook for a vegan. Tried and true recipes using some name brand products or similar products are suggested. The author who is a food blogger explains the differences between vegan proteins. She also talks about her own frustration with foods she missed for example, learning how to make a vegan souffle. Throughout the book she also explains the history of Betty Crocker and her role as a female cooking pioneer. There is a small section for parents and in-laws on how to cook vegan for Christmas and Hanukkah. I would have loved more pictures.

These recipes may be vegan, but they certainly aren't healthy! Just substituting processed meat and cheese alternatives does not make a healthy dish. If you want to learn to cook vegan for health reasons, this is not your cookbook. Try Robin Robertson's 1,000 Vegan Recipes, which is fabulous!

Having been a follower of the author's blog I knew to expect recipes that required heavily on processed meat substitutes. These aren't recipes that I would use everyday but there is a lot of good stuff here. So many good recipes and a lot to draw inspiration from to take things your own way. And best of all, they are recipes that I could feed to my omnivore family and friends without scaring them off (with the exception of the vegan fried eggs...) Also, in response to the previous commenter, vegan doesn't automatically mean healthy. We all have to use our own judgement and take responsibility for what we put in our bodies.

After reading through these recipes, I quickly found out that this wasn't the cookbook that I had in mind. I was looking for healthy dinners with healthy replacements for meat, but instead each recipe was filled with very processed ingredients list. Considering that it is supposed to be vegan, it isn't very healthy and gives readers the wrong idea in how to eat good wholesome foods without the meat and animal by products.
