THIS BOOK IS SO GOOD. It is honestly comparable to like The Hunger Games or Divergent, it is very detailed and just very fun and exciting to read. I think it would be an awesome movie.

Geez, I've never read a book like this before. Gene isn't just a human living in a world of vampires- he's masquerading as one. Has been for years. That's how he has survived this long.
Everyday it's the same routine. Shave arm, leg and facial hair. Apply odorless, homemade deodorant. Wash and whiten fake fangs. And replay the constant warnings from Dad over and over again until you can't get them wrong. The list of do's and don't's are endless. And failing to get something wrong would result in certain death from the people you've known your whole life.

His act is so convincing that no one suspects a thing. But it's so good, that despite his father's infrequent warning, he's beginning to lose himself, so ingrained in the play he performs that taking off the costume feels unwelcome, uncomfortable, and shameful.

The strangeness of the vampires' actions, and the way they interact with each other, was really strange but intriguing- it showed just how different they were from humans (if the fangs and allergy to sunlight wasn't enough). The extreme and intense lust for the rarity of human blood (and flesh), leaving them crazed, drooly and cracking their necks. If this image isn't creepy enough, try READING THE FIRST FREAKING PAGE! I sat down with this book expecting it to be like an intro to Gene's struggles or his desire to express himself with emotions or something. Nope. Instead, it talks about a human found at the school because she couldn't walk on the ceiling for nap-time getting ripped to shreds by her classmates and teachers.
That was when I knew that the tone of this book would be much more dark, gruesome, and merciless than I had expected.
And based on the events of this book, I was right.

This book was really good, with twists, impending doom, moral decision, adventure, and anxiety-inducing scenes. I would recommend it.

1ST in the trilogy, followed by "the Prey" & then "the Trap". It was interesting & a bit scary, but true - there are a lot of holes in the story (the biggest for me is that no girls past puberty could ever survive). It sounds too unbelievable that Gene would survive for such a long time. I am curious to what happens to him and his "sig other" in the next books. & yes I can see why some reviewers called this book "Hunger Games with vampires"

This book was very interesting i had a lot of fun reading this book. My favorite part is when Gene got chosen to be in the hunt.

I found the first chapter very interesting, but as I got further into the novel, I fell out of interest. It might have had to do with the dialogue or the lack thereof. It might have had to do with the fact that I had guessed some of the key plot points by the second chapter, but I found myself skimming the rest of the book rather than savoring it. It could have been all the sobbering! Ha! Too bad.

This was pretty original in the sense that the author (Andrew Fukuda) made his own rules up about vampires and how they operate. The lead character certainly has A dangerous lifestyle living amongst the vampire world from day to day. I really liked the idea of how the story of the hunt actually came into play, it would certainly be A great contest for vampires indeed. The twists in the story were kind of predictable though. I saw most things coming, but not too far ahead of the story. The idea of how the humans or "The hepers" as they call them were viewed through the vampires eyes and how they really were was a pretty cool comparison.
I won't tell how I feel about the ending as I will leave that to you the reader. :) Overall this was A great read. I read the book in one sitting pretty much as it's not very long, but I couldn't put it down either.

Vampires are now the normal society and humanity is just about extinct. However, there are some humans who have learned to blend in unnoticed and live among the vampires. An intriguing idea, unique among the many many vampire novels out there. Unfortunately Andrew Fukuda doesn't quite make it work. Way too many holes in the plot and it seems like the author just winged it in places. (Warning - spoiler alert) When the main character was surrounded and there was simply no way out he somehow found superhuman strenght to jump over the vampires - described in the whole book as fastly superior in speed and strength. I can suspend my disbelief when a novel is just that good but the Hunt doesn't make the cut.

I really liked this book. Drew me in right from the beginning. I don't think I could live like gene I would always slip up. The ending had me saying Whaaaaaaaaat?

Numerous plot holes through which you could ride a very large horse, but I remain curious how the series will turn out.

A very thrilling and good page turner! I reccomend this to anyone who likes dystopian thrillers!

“I remember the Hunt from ten years ago. How for months afterward I didn’t dare fall asleep because of the nightmares that would invade my mind: hideous images of an imagines Hunt, wet and violent and full of blood. Horrific cries of fear and panic, the sound of flesh ripped and bones crushed puncturing the night stillness.”
