Father/son(s) drama imbued with sensual luminosity, sadness and Bergman-esque emotional undercurrents. Michel Bouquet gave a sterling performance as august papa Auguste Renoir struggling to live and paint while his WWI-crippled son Jean tried to find his path as a film-maker (La Grande Illusion, Rules of the Game, La Chienne, etc.) Speaking of which, there was a feisty model who went on from painting to cinema, though not for long...#metoo will find much to discuss with the women who ran the Renoir's villa in Cagnes-sur-mer: domestics, models, widows whose husbands died at the front, yet indispensable when they bathed, cooked, cleaned and even carried the men who could hardly walk. Painterly cinematography by Mark Ping-Bing Lee, who lensed many Asian films, In the Mood for Love, among others.

This beautiful movie makes me want to live in the French countryside. Worth watching.

I enjoyed the movie! Quite good!

lovely to look at, but definitely not a biography of Renoir the elder as a painter nor Renoir the younger and a maker of great films. Andree is at the centre of the story as a muse for each of the Renoir men and a thorn in the side of the coterie of women who care for the family.

Gorgeous like a Renoir.

Visually stunning; mentally soporific.

Visually exquisite.

As with many French films, I did not connect with the main female character or believe anyone's "love" for anyone else. It feels like objectification and self-gratification.

The elder Renoir's pathos and strength as his hands became more gnarled and painful and the dynamics of the women of the household as they cared for him were much more real and poignant.

Superb film that brings Renoir to life. The wonderful visuals make you feel like you have stepped inside of a Renoir painting.
