In the near future that Summer Wars takes place in, the world is interconnected by a virtual space called OZ. It creates great opportunities, but represents a fatal weakness as well. When the AI Love Machine gets introduced, it starts taking over people's accounts, and technologies in the real world, this then threatens everyone. Kenji finds himself involved when the young girl Natsuki takes him to meet her family as her "boyfriend". When the crisis reaches a boiling point, this family must unite to save everyone. This two volume manga is based off of the movie of the same name. Virtual battles spice up the slice-of-life aspects while still retaining some of that genres depth. The art handles the action and emotion equally well. This society has advanced technology, yet equal parts of it are still traditional; one is the setting for the battle with the AI, while the other is the setting for family drama. Technology connects the world like never before, but it still cannot match the bond of a family.
