Nicholas Sparks’ novels often raise a dread factor with me because they tend to be too depressing for my taste. It had been a while since I read one, so I decided to try The Guardian on a recommendation. I read it with an air of caution hoping that I wouldn’t be completely disappointed in the ending. Unlike many of his books, there is an element of suspense to this one, so it captured my interest, and I managed to read it quickly. I wouldn’t call it a particularly sad or happy book, but it did have the elements of an interesting story and an ending that I could live with.
