Boring. Very boring.

Like Glencoe_Mike said, the two leads are good, the overall movie is nothing great. Does anyone else think Emile Hirsch looks like Jack Black in this film??

Indie film used to not only define films made outside of the studio system, but also a certain idiosyncratic, personal aesthetic and style. This film very much feels like a throwback to a time when indie still meant something. Director David Gordon Green started out making small, lyrical films like "George Washington," but then took an unexpected turn into stoner buddy comedies like "Pineapple Express," so this minimalist film is something of a return to his roots. The set up couldn't be much simpler: two guys painting lines on the road in rural Texas. If that sounds boring, then this movie is not for you. Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch are pretty much the only actors in it and they are both understated, as is the movie, with a lot of nice shots of nature. It's not the most exciting thing, but it's not trying to be. Soundtrack by Explosions in the Sky.

Nice college film class project. One of its main message is that the older man was happy being alone (see quote). However, his reaction to his girl friends letter spoke otherwise.

I was expecting a comedy, but this isn't funny. There are some scenes so stupid that you will chuckle a little silently, but I never laughed out loud once. And, it's too shallow and silly to be a drama. The characters have the depth of a mud puddle, and are barely tolerable. Paul Rudd's talent was wasted on such a poorly written film. The film would have been funnier if they had just let Rudd ad lib for an hour and a half. I just can't understand why the film was even made because it lacks almost any entertainment value. The other reviewers here are being very generous to have given this 2.5 or 3 stars.....It must be because it's Christmas time. ;-)

The movie had a very calming effect. There's really no explaining why I liked it...I just did.

Liked the two leads but the movie didn't really work for me overall.
