In the harsh, wintry woods of rural Quebec, Bruce, a down-on-his-luck snowplow operator, accidentally kills a man during a drunken night joyride. Stricken with panic, he hides the body and takes to the deep wilderness in hopes of outrunning both the authorities and his own conscience. But as both begin to close in, Bruce falls apart mentally and morally and mysteries unravel to reveal who he was before the accident.

A guilt-ravaged man lost in the snowy wild and struggling to make sense of his crime; the idea was good and it had the actor to carry it. But right from the beginning, the plot developments and the character's actions are so incredibly nonsensical that you're just not able to maintain any suspension of disbelief. The first thing he does, for instance, is to drive deep into the forest with his snowplow for no comprehensible reason. Even assuming that he was able to make it deep in the forest with his snowplow, wouldn't he just have to follow the trail of broken trees and branches to get out? And if the whole thing is allegorical and he really is 'a thousand miles from civilisation', how can he walk to a snack bar and manage to trudge back through knee-deep snow with three large gallons of fuel and food?

Good movie--Thomas Haden Church is usually a sure bet as to his choice of roles and the way he plays them. As the mystery of exactly what led up to the death unravels, the (rather inept) protagonist himself unravels in another sense. And some of it is bleakly funny.

Really did like it. There was such a down home Canadian feel about it all. Even though that is not what it was about, there were some real qenuine funny moments. Quirky.

At the start this movie had all the clues it would be a bomb ... a narrator, and the main character is, believe it or not, an Anglophone snowplow driver in Quebec! An Ango snowplow driver in Quebec....!! Ya, really!
