I read his other book, Mindless Eating, first so I found this book a little repetitive in the content. I liked both books, but this one is definitely more comprehensive so if you haven't read either book you should read this one first. He does a great job sharing real case studies and suggestions from the outcome of his research to help you create a healthier environment so you don't have use pure willpower to make good choices. My family has implemented a few of the suggestions and I know we are eating more fruits and vegetables based on our grocery bill.

I was a big fan of Brian Wansink's other book, Mindless Eating. Instead of writing about diet and exercise, Wansink talks about food psychology and food behavior. Slim By Design uses the findings from the experiments explained in Mindless Eating to create practical ways to help you redesign your world for healthier eating. The info graphics are fun and you can gain a lot of useful information just by flipping through the book and looking at them.

Be cause I ma retired, and because my children are no longer in school, at least three of the chapters in this book were not relevant. I still read them because they did contain good suggestions which can be applied to one's home. I like the author's approached because he shows you exactly how to make your home and restaurant eating "slim by design". His strategies cost very little, if anything, to implement. I have now ordered his book Mindless Eating ((2006) to see which techniques he proposes. Better than reading diet books.
