Like a runaway train, Signy Shepherd has been blowing through danger signals all her life. Recruited to the Line, a shadowy underground railroad dedicated to helping women in peril, Signy has no idea that her first solo case will set her on a collision course with a renowned photographer concealing a murderous past; a relentless tracker with an explosive secret; and her own violent demons.

For the last 350+ pages, need to really suspend belief. Here's an organization getting women out of abusive relationships. There's nothing to indicate the principals behind the Line are specially trained with the financial and technical resources only governments, military intelligence, and organized hackers would possess. The women in The Line appear to be concerned, well-meaning individuals, seeking to help the vulnerable, of whom they once were. Their major nemesis, one of the most powerful men in Canada, a former hitman, with vast resources and finances, along with henchmen and world-class "trackers" at his disposal. Is he a match for this hodgepodge group of women? Why, the answer is obvious from page 1 isn't it? To say that the story is extremely implausible is an understatement. For example, The Tracker was more likely to win the 649 lottery TWICE as he was in finding Signy. I was looking for a story with balance and depth. Not here.

The first in the Signy Shepherd books. This one has the main character - a member of a network of women's shelters shepherding abused victims across the country - dealing with a corrupt cop unhappy his daughter-in-law and grandchildren have been sent to safety from an abusive husband and father, a gangster trying to stop a photographer with damning evidence of a spy ring; a vindictive tracker who is trying to find someone unsuspected. A thrilling book. Having already read "Dark Territory", I can't wait to read more.
