Started but didn’t finish...

If you like self centered people who only care about themselves, this is the girl for you. By the time we got to her sad back story I didnt care. A lot of people have tragic pasts and can still see the needs of others. This girl ain't one of them. Her back story was exactly like another book I read (detail for detail) but can't place it. That'll drive me crazy!!.

I thought about this book for a good amount of time after finishing it. It's definitely not what I was expecting -- I began reading thinking it was a typical fluff story about a young woman who is about to marry into a rich family. It was unexpected, but there was definitely way more to the story than that. It was dark, sad, and upsetting at many times. The ending wasn't exactly what I was hoping for, but I think it does an okay job of finishing off the story. An easy read that leaves an impact.

I had a hard time getting into this book. The main character was not my favorite , and at times I honestly couldn’t stand her. After you read further and learn about her past, her family, and school it all adds up to why she is the way she is. I couldn’t put the book down! It gets EXTREMELY dark in some chapters so if you’re looking for a light, happy read.. this book isn’t for you! The main character becomes much more relatable as the book goes on and it has a great ending.

So I came upon this book because it was recommended by one of The View co hosts.. stating this was a chick lit and for those that wanted a lighter read than a political book. When I hear the term chick lit.. I'm thinking Sex and the City, Bridget Jones Diary, even Confessions of Shopahlic... books about fun, romance and a serious tint mixed in. This book didn't have any of that, it was a very dark book.

I think had the co host on the View explained that this was a darker book and not for those wanting a light hearted read, I might have come to this book with a different mindset. With that said, it does capture the awkwardness of trying to fit in, trying to keep up with the Joneses, and also showing that sometimes the past comes back to haunt us when we try our best to out run it.

This book rips off the veneer and exposes the harsh reality of women who have been raped. The PTSD episodes. The pretense that everything's fine here. The impossibility of real intimacy. The rage. The self-doubt. The impossible task of trying to put back together the shattered shards of our spirit, dignity, and self-respect after we have been brutally violated by arrogant, self-entitled, powerful men who know they'll never be held accountable. . .men who will make us wish we'd never been born if we break our silence and speak the truth.

I think most of the people who have written reviews didn't absorb the weight of the dedication: "To all the TifAni FaNellis of the world. I know."

The publisher made a mistake suggesting this was another Gone Girl. No. Today, it would be pitched more accurately as the brave, raw story of a #MeToo survivor.

Yes, the book gets off to a rough start. Yes, TifAni FaNelli is annoying. The black rose on the cover is a clue that she's not, in fact, the Luckiest Girl Alive despite how desperately she would like to be.

This book was a little dark, so not for you if you are in the mood for a light read. It was good though & somehow I found myself feeling sorry for and disliking the main character at the same time. The ending wasn't my favorite and left you wanting a little more clarity.

Loved this book and I've found another author that i plan on following to see where they can take me with their next book.I found myself feeling sorry for and disliking the main character at the same time. This book had a lot of twist and turns that keep you awake at night turning the pages.Jessica Knoll has a new fan and she will be added to my list of authors to look for at the library.

If you aren't in the mood for a depressing story, then this isn't the one for you. The subject matter, the characters, the plot and storyline - all of it - dark and unrelenting. That being said, the writing style, speed and unpredictable turns that the story takes made it difficult for me to put down. There are many potential "triggers," including sexual violence, murder and bullying (to name a few,) but if you're up for it, it's a compelling read.

“Moving on doesn’t mean you don’t talk about it. Or hurt about it. It’s always going to hurt,”

I feel as though Luckiest Girl Alive is Gone Girl's less impressive, but just as dark sister.
Ani's character I felt was a tad forced at some points- I mean who actually walks around literally hating every woman she comes across. I could see the method behind Amy Dunne's (Gone Girl) character, but Ani felt forced by the author. I know she's supposed to be a "unlikeable, unreliable" narrator, but she just overall was not agood person. However, the saving grace to this one was the unexpected events that occurred. I knew Ani was supposed to be this woman who had a horrible public humiliation in her past, but I never saw it coming until the moment(s) it actually happens. Bravo, Jessica Knoll! I was thoroughly floored at it and was almost upset by it. I mean, damn!

Was it the best or one of my favorites from this year? Nah. But did I enjoy it? Yes. Will I recommend it? Sure- to anyone desperate enough for a Gillian Flynn read-alike. I imagine I'd read any of Knoll's future publications if it were like this one.
