Front Runner is up to the usual high standards of the Francis family novels. Jeff Hinkley is investigating an illegal betting scheme, when there are attempts on his life. Jeff is the usual bloodied but unbowed Francis hero. He waltzes off to the Cayman Islands to recover during Christmas, when more untoward events occur. We are treated to background information on medical conditions, scuba diving, and betting at the races. I learn as well as am entertained when I read a Francis novel. Front Runner kept my interest to the last page.
