Recc by Susie--overly intense

Great acting. Some interesting twists
and turns.
Kept me guessing.
The British seem
to be very good, at Police Drama.

Starts well with a nice plot twist but then deteriorates into one improbable scene after another. Veterans Douglas Henshall and Geraldine James deliver, but Sheridan Smith (the central figure) is, at best, an acquired taste. Not up to the usual BBC / ITV standard.

When policewoman Jo Gillespie's husband is found murdered, she is told that for the last three years he has been part of a secret undercover operation.

Enjoyed this police woman story though, at the end, just another "end justifies the means" thriller. What made this film stood out was its intriguing mystery that nothin' was what it seemed. Since it was improbable to fool a smart cop wife for such a prolonged period as one of the character did, knocked off a star.

We enjoyed this 3 part series - each episode about one hour. Quite satisfactory, if not outstanding. Several of the prior comments remark about Ms. Smith's pageboy haircut, which didn't bother me - it's not that unlikely for a uniformed police woman who is married and has children. What I thought improbable (in the present era) was the heavy makeup worn by her and the lady chief of police.

I've seen better but still an OK crime show. Sheridan Smith's was great in her role!

At the beginning I did not like Sheridan Smith's haircut, it was too short . As I continued I began to like the interesting plot and the suspects of the murder. Pretty good!

O.K., Sheridan Smith's haircut is distracting, but once you get over that, there is an interesting crime drama here. Plenty of suspects in the murder of an undercover policeman, and I have to admit, I thought I had this one figured out. But plot twists and fine performances kept me focused till the big reveal at the end.

Hair style no doubt dictated by smith's previous role as cancer patient.

-I understand you, sir, I do. If people don't trust the police force - MY police force - then they lose faith
in the law and justice.
---Well, that's what I'm saying. We used to trust the bobby on the beat - not any more.
We're trying to build a picture of someone whose job it was to keep his activities a secret.
My boy wasn't killed crossing the road, Jo. He died doing his job and I want people to know!
There's nothing...nothing to be words for the loss of a friend...a husband, a son, a father. And we don't imagine when we say goodbye to someone one morning... that they might never come back. At least, normal people don't. But we know... that we are not in a normal line of work. We hold a line between the world we all want and the world as it is. ...
-And what if he'd hurt you badly, where would the kids be then? That's who you should be thinking about.
---I am. I'm trying to understand this for all of us.

Just don't make the same mistake I did. I hated you for years. But you didn't take him from me. He left me. So blame XXYYZZ. Not the other woman. Whoever she is.
... he had to disappear. It's the only way to survive. You have to be who they want you to be. Someone they can trust. It's black work, Jo. If you want a nice, easy life, you're better off pounding the pavements as a PC.
Police officers aren't allowed to follow their own agenda. They're not allowed to make up their own minds.
Kids from broken homes, disaffected. Two years from now, it's them that are gonna be holding up corner shops or killing each other in the streets. How many kids' lives do you think I've saved by putting guys like that where they belong?
