Inconsistent storyline but evocatively conveys life in Palermo when the city was controlled by the mafia. Sometimes descends into vaudeville style humour when depicting the life of the protagonist. The last scene of the movie shows the cost to the brave people in law enforcement, journalism and the judiciary who were willing to take a stand. Judges Borsellino and Falcone are the most famous of that era and both correctly sensed they wouldn't live to retirement.

An often light-hearted account of a very dark time in modern Italian history. It seems to serve as a reminder (and a wake-up call) of what it took to bring the Mafia under some degree of control only 25 years ago.
