"No gods to rule us, no drugs to soothe us, no myths to prove stuff, no love to confuse us." With his third release as Father John Misty, erstwhile Fleet Foxes drummer Joshua Tillman goes deeper and darker. "Pure Comedy" is deeply ironic and deeply cynical about human nature. Over 13 songs (It's a double album if you have the LP.), Tillman dissects himself, technology, God, and just about everything else. All set to exquisite arrangements and deceptively pretty tunes. Many seem put off by his persona, but I think he uses it is kinda brilliant. The centerpiece of the album if the devastating, 13 minute long "Leaving LA." Nobody is writing songs at the level he is right now. Great artwork too.

For those who don't know, this album leaked and I've already listened to it about a thousand times. It's better than Honeybear. Check it out.
