Fortitude: from scintillatingly riveting (season 1) to utterly dysfunctional (season 2). Whereas, the former is set on a firm foundation of scientific reality (see shadow web series Investigating Fortitude), the latter is an insipid freak show so ludicrous it leaves the viewer in awe of whoever baked up this fruitcake production. From the outset, the season 2 script is so uninspiring it builds no anticipation toward the next episode. Which brings up in hindsight the question of whether there exists an actual script or was the director playing by ear. Granted there's been significant decimation of the flawless cast between the two seasons (Eccleston, Gambon, Tucci, others are gone), but those remaining all seem to be in a 24/7 daze,, clueless to the max. It beggars belief that they are able to fend for themselves and run a town. And Fortitude itself has indeed gone downhill between the first and second series, coming across as a skeletal, disused film set. As per my previous posted comment, season 1 absolutely deserves five stars. Season 2, how about half of one, for the crew just showing up?
