A picture book for magical yet imperfect girls everywhere, written by debut author Ashley Franklin and perfect for fans of such titles as Mary Had a Little Glam by Tammi Sauer and the classic Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman.

Tameika is a girl who belongs on the stage. She loves to act, sing, and dance--and she's pretty good at it, too. So when her school announces their Snow White musical, Tameika auditions for the lead princess role.

But the other kids think she's "not quite" right to play the role.

They whisper, they snicker, and they glare.

Will Tameika let their harsh words be her final curtain call?

Not Quite Snow White is a delightful and inspiring picture book that highlights the importance of self-confidence while taking an earnest look at what happens when that confidence is shaken or lost. Tameika encourages us all to let our magic shine.

While certain parts of this book feel like targeted jabs at some recent events, it's message is one that should be shared with kids and even adults as often as possible. Representation has been and will likely continue to be a tough fight for some but it's an essential message for those who need it. This book will offer the same message to kids that Tameika recieves from her parents when she fears that she's "too tall," "too chubby," or "too brown" to be Snow White: that it's more important to be proud of who you are than worry about the things other people think you are or aren't.

I remember hearing that I was too __ (fill in the blank) for certain things and that hurt my feelings & my self-confidence more than I can express. But just like Tameika, I had people in my life who loved me and all of the pieces that made me unique. They taught me, just like this book does, that no matter who you are, you are just enough of all the right stuff!
