Add a CommentThe Farewell is a heartfelt and sweetly funny movie about grieving, family dynamics, and cultural differences. Awkwafina, who is known mostly for her comedic acting, gives a touching dramatic performance.
Excellent movie: excellent story line!
slow paced movie
The plot of this movie is that a woman’s grandmother gets diagnosed with
lung cancer, and her family decides to keep this a secret from her
grandmother. They believe that telling her of the cancer would kill her faster.
In order to bring the family together during this trying time without leading
her grandmother to believe something was wrong, a cousin agrees to get
married, bringing all of their family to China. Awkwfina plays the main
character, and I love her, but this was a much more serious role to see her in.
Though I thought the concept was interesting, and the actors were fabulous,
I felt as if the story dragged on a bit too long for me. If you are interested I
would say wait until it’s on DVD.
