Terry Pratchett is one of my favorite authors and of his discworld novels this is one of my favorites. If you like laughing, thinking, and well wrought story telling (and especially if you like them in that order) read this book. Pratchett has outdone himself in this work. His unique blend of the absurd, the realistic, the philosophical, and the hilarious has hooked me. This is one of the very few authors who can make me laugh out loud while reading. And he does it while telling a story worth telling, and making you think thoughts worth thinking. Discworld has been compared to hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, and there are similarities. Pratchett turns things on their ear and amuses with the absurd similarly to Adams, but Pratchett's work doesn't feel jaded or cynical and is every bit as cognizant of individual and societal foibles. He is every bit as intelligent and yet lighthearted. I haven't said anything about this book's specific plot and I'm not really going to, Pratchett is an author that I like so much I don't read the back of his books before starting them. I trust him as an author and not knowing where the story is headed is a good thing in his case. Seriously, go out and read this book.
