Children of the Mind is the fourth and final book in the Ender’s Game quartet. The story follows the unfinished story arches that carried over from Xenocide (the preceding book), and brings the series to a somewhat satisfying ending. The story is fairly similar in style to Xenocide since Children of the Mind was originally part of Xenocide, but the story was later split into two books. This is definitely not a bad thing, because the story is still a very intellectual read, but because it is the conclusion to the quartet, there is action, which Xenocide lacked. Children of the Mind also seems to be paced better than Xenocide, with pacing similar to Ender’s Game or Speaker for the Dead. Some parts of the story didn’t match the previous books’ style of “science-fiction based on science”, and instead traded it for flat-out magic (I’m referring to the aiuas). It’s not bad, just different. The ending was satisfying; however, it left a couple loose ends that really deserve their own book, and it’s a shame that there isn’t one. Regardless, Children of the Mind does an excellent job of bringing a conclusion to the Ender’s Game quartet. 4/5 Stars - @Fulton of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
