What a disappointment. The first Nanny McPhee had charm, sillyness, style, mayhem all against a solid background of an excellent story, great characters, wonderful actors and heartfelt honest emotion - and special effects used judiciously. There are some fine actors on display here (Thompson, Maggie Smith, Ralph Fiennes all essentially wasted) and Maggie Gyllenhal is fine (although it's a mystery as to why either a-a British actress wasn't cast, or b-they didn't make her character an American in Britain - one line would have covered it), and the thinnest paint-by-numbers sequel storyline (Ms Thompson should be embarrassed) and heaps of loud, unbelievable silliness and special effects for their own sake. If the first had one of something this one has six, because more is better right? And not even Disney has ever dared to sanitize WWII as much as this dreck does. An enemy aircraft is actually labeled so - "Enemy Aircraft", I guess it's supposed to be funny, but it's not, it's disrespectful to those who experienced the war, but more, to those young ones watching. Pass this one up and watch the charming first one again. Or Mary Poppins, or Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
