An intense and focused work, grueling in its storyline. It's somewhere between Shirley Jackson's The Lottery and The Hunger Games. But it's very intriguing because, unlike most novels by King and others, it has only one continuous plot. There are no subplots or jumping around in time. It's hard to put down, you get absorbed in the story, as uncomfortable as it is.
