Jack London's classic, The Call of the Wild, centers on the themes of nature and nurture. Buck, a dog beloved by a family in California, is taken as the winnings of gambling, and shipped to the Klondike. There, instead of being lord of his manor, he is forced into the brutal reality of the ways of clubs and fangs and claws. He adapts, he changes, he hardens. An interesting look into the author's experiences of life in the Klondike, from the point of view of a sled dog.
