SPOILERS AHEAD! The first half of the book was really good. I liked the fact that the heroine, who was said to be a badass, acutally was! Too many times I've read books where the heroine is 'daring' or 'bold' and it turns out to be a dud, like she wears clothes that are out of fashion or something (i dunno). I almost wish that they hadn't slept until the end of the book. I really liked the chase and it was fun to see Maximus strategize to get close to her. After they had slept together, it was the usual deal you see when wealthy, eligible lords have acquired mistresses. I HATED how Artemis was treated afterwards, but more than that, I hated how Maximus did nothing to defend her. Comments like, "I don't care what they think" or "Let them talk," don't fly with me. Oh and the worst, that three month time period for their marriage, what is up with that? Is that the time for her to rise up from level of a whore to a respectable woman? You slept with this woman, even though you shouldn't have. You're stringing her along, not sure whether you should marry her or not. You've made her an outcast in society and you're planning to take her freedom too. You're letting her get insulted left and right and instead of marrying her right then and there you decide to give time for the society to adjust to the idea of her being back in their group? You just do not do that. Not to the woman you love. Lastly, the ending of the story was rather anticlimactic with the bad guy not really that bad. I mean he did bad things relevant to the hero like 20 some years ago. I had hoped to see more of a combined effort from all Ghosts of St. Giles and when it did (sorta) happen, it was too little, too late and didn't matter.
