The Spiderwick Chronicles is a fantasy adventure film based on the bestselling book, and produced by Nickelodeon Movies. It is set in the Spiderwick Estate, and follows the adventures of Jared Grace and his family as they discover a field guide to fairies while battling goblins, mole trolls, and other magical creatures. When Helen Grace moves into the Spiderwick Estate in the woods with her children, Jared uncovers a dumbwaiter system behind a wall and finds a monogrammed key and discovers the study of the late owner of the estate, Arthur Spiderwick. A shapeshifting ogre named Mulgarath wants the field guide for himself so he can rule over all fairy-kind. Simon is injured and Mallory is attacked by the goblins, but manages to kill several using her fencing skills, making her finally realize that Jared is right. Inside, Thimbletack informs them that Mulgarath will kill all human if he gets the book. Children use the book to summon Arthur Spiderwick's pet, a griffin which takes them to the realm of the Sylphs. Overall, It is a skillful combination of entertainment, adventure, sense of wonder and magic! - @Syraf of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library The Spiderwick Chronicles is about the Grace family which consists of 3 kids and a divorced mother. They have moved into a new house and some of the kids aren’t too happy about this. Jared, one of the kids is quite curious about his new house and starts to roam around but, when he finds this book written by the previous resident of the house, Arthur Spiderwick, his world changes and he begins to see things he could not before. Jared tries to convince his brother, Simon and his sister Mallory about this new world but, it takes some time. Together they must protect the book at all costs from an ogre named Mulgarath who will not stop until the book is in his hands. The Spiderwick Chronicles is filled with action and adventure and at some points it made me laugh. I personally really enjoyed it and I would recommend this film. I would rate the Spiderwick Chronicles 4/5. - @Grimvar of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library
