Laal Singh Chaddha, a man with a low IQ, shares his life story with fellow passengers on a train, drawing them into his tale. Born during the Indo-Pak war and named after his martyred grandfather, Laal overcomes school rejection thanks to a compassionate priest. He befriends Roopa D'Souza, who dreams of wealth to escape her abusive father, but their paths diverge as she pursues an acting career in Mumbai while Laal joins the Indian army. After the war, Laal honors a fallen friend's dream by starting a business with the help of a former terrorist he saved. Despite his success, Laal continues to yearn for Roopa, hoping for her return.
